A general reference map of the world. This Strebe-Kavrayskiy
projection avoids breaks in continents by a slight reorientation of the
globe before projecting it, so that it is centered on 11 deg. E, 11 deg.
S. This map uses the Political World 2 image data base as a background
and draws the coastlines, graticule, international borders and major rivers
on top of it.
The Equidistant projection is shown six times. Each of
the six maps has different paramaters. Each map is made with a different
image data base.
A set of globe views, to show the entire earth "naturally".
The orthographic is the only "globe" view. This file was projected
using the Altitude Color 1 database. The shading was added with Adobe Photoshop.
Two hemispheric maps showing the world accurately. This is the Airy
projection with a 90 deg. optimization radius from center. These maps use
the Political World 2 image data base as a background and draws the coastlines
and graticule on top of it.
A base map of the United States. This example uses the Color Relief
4 data base for the background and the International Boarders, U.S. States,
Major Rivers and Lakes to produce the lines. To minimize scale error the
lower 48 states are shown in the Equidistant Conic projection with standard
parallels at 29 deg. 30N and 45 deg. 30N. Alaska is an Airy projection
centered at 63 deg. N and 148 deg. 30W, using a minimum-error radius of
8 deg. Hawaii is shown in the Plate Carree but it is so small that any
projection having true scale at the center would suffice.
